Great news for American Russell Brand fans who are finding it hard to wait for Get Him to the Greek to come out in 2010. NeoClassics has announced the release of the UK comedy St. Trinian’s in U.S. theaters this summer. The remake of the 1950s Ealing classic The Belles of St. Trinian’s grossed more than $25 million in its UK theatrical run. Sony Pictures will handle DVD and TV distribution.
St. Trinian’s tells the twisted story of a dysfunctional British girls’ boarding school and its equally twisted parents, teachers and administrators. The film is directed by Oliver Parker and Barnaby Thompson and stars Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, Russell Brand, Gemma Arterton, Lena Headey, Caterina Murino and Stephen Fry.
Russell Brand plays the part of Flash Harry, who runs the St Trinian’s Matrimonial Agency for the Sixth Form girls. A somewhat shady character, he puts bets on race horses for the pupils and also helps them to bottle and sell their home-made gin.
A sequel, St. Trinian’s II: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold, is scheduled to go in production this summer. It has not yet been confirmed whether Brand will appear in the sequel.
Watch the St. Trinian’s trailer to get a few glimpses of Russell as Flash Harry and whet your appetite for this summer, when St. Trinian’s is sure to become a US box office smash!
